Enterprise Portal System (EPS)
Riptide’s Enterprise Portal System (EPS) is a new product offering that provides a secure “gathering place” for employees, customers, partners and vendors to efficiently collaborate.  Your organization can use the Enterprise Portal System to facilitate collaboration, manage information and documents, implement business processes, and provide access to information that is essential to organizational goals and processes.

The Enterprise Portal System provides out of the box functionality for project management, calendaring, document sharing, issue tracking, and collaboration.
Program and project managers can use the Enterprise Portal System to review schedule, identify risks, review metrics, and produce reports. They are presented with an easy to understand dashboard as their home page with customizable content that at a glance quickly summarizes their area of concerns. Graphs and the data behind them can be downloaded for insertion in presentations and further analysis. Pre-defined searches and custom filters can be used to determine the dependencies a program manager may have on other products and the items he is responsible for providing. On-line calendars track important milestones and provide easy import into a user's Microsoft outlook calendar.

Employees can use the EPS to get instant access to the most up to date versions of the documents and information they need.  Employees can upload new documents or make comments on documents within the portal.  Forums are available to allow the employees to interact with each other in an informal fashion across organizational boundaries exchanging lessons learned and practical tips. The EPS can also accommodate on-line tutorials and training material. Collaboration areas within the EPS allow stakeholders to facilitate working groups by providing document storage, action item maintenance, calendars, email distribution lists, a virtual meeting capability with desktop sharing, and other items all under strictly controlled roles and permissions.

EPS users have access to FAQ's, user discussion forums, training and reference material, and an integrated help desk / issue tracking system. Through the EPS help desk users can review known issues for their product, submit trouble tickets, check the status of active trouble tickets, and request supplementary support. The FAQ's help prevent duplicate or superfluous trouble ticket submittal. The monitored discussion forums can help ascertain user concerns and usability issues that can be addressed in subsequent versions of the product.

The Enterprise Portal System can also be used to provide information to customers or the general public. The portal is separated into a public and a user account / password protected side. On the public side general, non-proprietary information can be presented. On the user account side the capabilities of the portal are restricted by role and permissions.

Technology
The Enterprise Portal System was developed using the latest Microsoft ASP.NET web technologies and leverages the open source DotNetNuke framework. The portal has an intricate role based security model, where members of the portal are given appropriate roles according to there security level and need. Furthermore, every page and module on a page is permission based and can be configured easily to only be viewed by certain roles. There is a SQL Server 2005 backend database that is used to store all data. Custom module development is developed using the C#.NET 2.0 programming language.

Flexibility
The Enterprise Portal System provides rich portal functionality and also provides a robust platform that can be easily expanded and enhanced.  Open source, DotNetNuke components integrate easily into the EPS and complex, custom functionality can be developed using standard development tools.

Deployment
The Enterprise Portal System is an On Demand solution that can be deployed within your existing infrastructure or hosted within Riptide’s secure data center.

Conference Registration Systems
University of Central Florida needed a method of collecting user registration information for an upcoming conference. The system needed to be developed quickly and allow users to create and manage their user profile information, select from various member types, select the type of registration category, provide payment and confirm transaction verification information.

Simple and Effective Solutions.
Although Riptide specializes in the development of complex object-oriented applications, the PHP language and MySQL database tools were selected for this application due the need for limited functions and to remain within tight budget constraints. To keep costs low and value high, Riptide often uses proven open-source software. Functional components consisted of a user interface that dynamically generates user screens, controls program flow and provides database functions (data creation, updates and queries). A simple back office Microsoft Access user interface was also created to allow administrators to quickly access conference registration data. The system required integration with the organization's membership database using FreeTDS and the University of Central Florida's ePay System.
